Boost for Newcastle United with long-term transfer thinking in place behind the scenes

While the January transfer window proved far from perfect for the Newcastle United fans here in the Transfer Tavern, the fact they did at least manage to bring in some signings has restored survival confidence ever so slightly. Indeed, with Rafa Benitez at the helm, our resident Geordies are hopeful the Spaniard can work his magic.

Though the powers that be at St. James’ Park frequently let the supporters down, the fact that Benitez has stuck around thus far is reason to celebrate, despite many fears amongst our punters clad in black and white that he could walk at any given moment.

However, reports from the Chronicle may hint at some good news on that front. They claim Benitez and his team started working on summer transfer targets, led up by the head of recruitment in Steve Nickson, just hours after the winter window shut.

Despite the fact that many of our drinkers have doubts about those behind the scenes, perhaps this is a positive indicator as to Benitez’s future.

Landlord’s Verdict:

If Newcastle stay up and are finally taken over, it’s hard to see why Benitez would want to leave. Obviously, they are big ‘ifs’ though not out of the realms of possibility. Having managed to at least get some deals over the line in January, there’s a much better chance now.
