Bringing £9m-rated creative lynchpin back to St. James’ would be great for Newcastle United

The Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern are delighted to see their team edge even closer to survival having recently found great form. It’s been far from an easy season but it seems that Newcastle, in the end, have just enough quality to remain in the Premier League.

The success, you could argue, has been mainly down to the manager Rafa Benitez and within him, the Magpie fans know they would struggle a lot more. The players in recent weeks have been equally as great and have even started to find their rhythm in front of goal.

If this form is to continue into next season however, Newcastle will need some reinforcements during the summer transfer window, with our punters wanting a return to St James’ Park for Yohan Cabaye. The 32-year-old is coming to the end of his contract at Crystal Palace so we believe this is the perfect time to reunite the Frenchman with Newcastle.

Rated at £9m by Transfermarkt, he’d be a bargain on a free and any arrival would certainly go down well with supporters, considering his first spell on Tyneside.

Having endured a very successful time with the Magpies before moving to PSG, Cabaye is still a talented player and could be an integral part of their midfield alongside Jonjo Shelvey for example. The midfield general has played in 29 games this season and despite only getting one assist all season long, Newcastle fans know that he brings so much more to the game than direct involvement with goals.

Landlord’s Verdict:

Newcastle are a team that have little squad depth so the re-signing of Yohan Cabaye would be more than welcome in that respect. As well though, the Frenchman still has a quality passing range, isn’t afraid to tackle and most importantly Newcastle fans still hold a soft spot for him after his terrific performances for them from 2011-2014.
