The Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern are looking forward to seeing Islam Slimani in a Newcastle United shirt for the first time since he joined the club on-loan from Leicester in the summer. Benitez confirmed that the big Algerian will be in the squad for the club’s clash with Huddersfield after he came off the bench for Algeria during the international break.
Rafa: “We had a plan (with Slimani). He had to progress and was following the plan and we were talking with the Algerian federation. The idea that he could play some minutes in the second game (for Algeria) was good. He is in the squad tomorrow.” #NUFC

The inclusion of Slimani is a big boost for Rafa Benitez’ side as the fans have waited for months to see their new temporary striker turn out for the Toon. The striker swapped The King Power Stadium for St James Park on loan in January after being unable to nail down a starting spot under Leicester manager, Claude Puel. The Algerian target-man will be hoping he can impress in the Northeast and bag himself a permanent transfer as he looks to endear himself to the Newcastle fans.
The Geordies’ game against Huddersfield tomorrow provides the club with a chance to climb seven points clear of the relegation zone. Newcastle currently sit four points and five places above the drop zone and look increasingly likely to avoid relegation to the Championship after coming up from England’s second tier last season. A win for Newcastle puts one foot in the Premier League for next season as far as the club are concerned and with the return of Slimani, a win is looking likely for Benitez side.
