Life amongst the Newcastle United fans here in the Transfer Tavern has been really rather sour of late after a miserable run that’s seen them go without a win in 8 games.
Indeed, the Geordie contingent drowning their sorrows in our bar can’t believe Mike Ashley and his lack of spending during the summer has led them to this position, after working so hard to ensure an immediate return to the Premier League last season. So, it’s fair to say our punters clad in black and white could do with cheering up.
Well, reports from Marca have at least suggested Newcastle United remain a club people want to play for. In their report on Real Madrid ‘keeper Kiko Casilla, they claim the Spaniard wanted to join the Magpies last summer, though Los Blancos reportedly declined the chance to negotiate with the Premier League side.
Now, however, those in the Spanish capital could reportedly offer him an exit over the course of the January transfer window, so it’ll be interesting to see whether Newcastle make a move, as has been linked before.
Either way, a looks like a move for the double Champions League winner could be on the cards for Real.
Neither Karl Darlow or Rob Elliot have proven overly impressive this season and a star as trophy-laden Kiko Casilla would certainly be a coup for Rafa Benitez on Tyneside this January. However, it looks to be down to whether or not Ashley releases funds in the New Year.
