The Newcastle United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are desperate for a new striker to arrive in January after a fairly dreadful time of things in front of goal thus far.
Indeed, neither Dwight Gayle or Joselu have proven overly convincing in leading the line this season and, with Aleksandr Mitrovic absolutely out of the equation, the Toon Army certainly need a new spearhead if they are going to remain in the top flight.
With that in mind, some of our punters clad in black and white here have been discussing some potential additions as we await the New Year sales. Someone who was linked with a move to St. James’ Park during the summer was Celtic star Leigh Griffiths, out in the cold under Brendan Rodgers.
The Scotland international has an excellent goalscoring record and, while the SPFL is obviously a lower standard, the former Hibernian man clearly knows where the net is and would provide a palpable goal threat, enough to give the Magpies a fighting chance of survival.
So, having said all that, we’re asking our Newcastle-mad readers, should Benitez look to sign Leigh Griffiths in January?
