Our Newcastle fans here in the Transfer Tavern are very happy with how things are going at the moment with a good point secured away at Reading last night.
Indeed, after vital wins against Huddersfield and Brighton in recent games this point against another side going for promotion will surely be welcomed by Magpies up and down the country.
They’re now firmly the favourites to take the title after coming out of the three games with seven points and it’s up to Rafa Benitez and his men to make it count over the coming weeks.
They’re one of the best sides in the second tier, then, but according to Jaap Stam they’re not actually one of the two best sides he feels his Reading outfit have played this season – citing the defensive set-up of the Magpies last night.
As reported by Lee Ryder for Chronicle Live and on his Twitter account, the Dutch legend turned Royals boss actually reckons that Brentford and Fuham play better football than the Magpies:
Jaap Stam says Newcastle AREN'T one of the two best sides they've faced this year – but will go up https://t.co/tJPTwN3XmX #NUFC

He does say that Newcastle are a good side, too, and that makes sense given they’re at the summit but Rafa Benitez will certainly hope to start playing better football over the coming games.
