Newcastle United fans in the Tavern will be hoping for successful summer ahead of next season's campaign.

The biggest and best manager at St James' Park since Bobby Robson, Rafael Benitez has done an incredible job. The Spaniard got the side back to the Premier League, then kept them there and last year pushed them to a tenth place finish. The former Liverpool boss has been working hard to get some new faces into the squad and contrary to reports, Stefano Sturaro is not one of them.

Reports had linked the Magpies with a move for Sturaro, who's also attracted interest from West Ham. The midfielder is on the transfer list at Juve as they look to free up money to make some summer moves but according to Shields Gazette journalist, Miles Starforth, Sturaro is not one of Newcastle's transfer targets.

The Breakdown

With Mikel Merino's impending departure, Benitez is on the hunt to add to his midfield numbers. United have signed free agent and former Swansea City midfielder, Ki Sung-Yeung but still remain keen to add another midfielder during the summer.

While Sturaro has been a top player in Serie A, he has struggled to nail down a place in Allegri's Juventus side. West Ham were believed to be leading the race to sign the Italy international earlier this week and it now seems that they will likely to be favourites to finalise the deal with Newcastle seemingly not interested.

That, probably, is a good thing for the Toon Army. While the Juve man certainly does boast a huge amount quality, the Magpies are probably better off investing what is surely likely to be their fairly limited funds into other areas of the squad, such is the situation on Tyneside.

So Newcastle fans, are you disappointed to miss out on the Juventus man?Â
