The Newcastle fans propping our bar up could get used to seeing the 21-year-old midfielder dominate matches from the middles of the park, although it may be shortlived for the Geordies as Merino’s impressive displays have won him a number of admirers across Europe. Merino is only in his debut season at St James Park and despite initially only joining the Magpies on loan from Borussia Dortmund, the Spaniard has reached enough appearances to trigger a clause in his contract keeping on Tyneside permanently.
Newcastle look set to retain their Premier League status Rafa Benitez’ side has impressed in the Premier League this campaign. The Magpies were touted to be involved in a fierce relegation battle at the start of the season but currently find themselves 13th in the table and four points clear of the drop zone with eight games remaining. This has been down to a number of key performers in the squad and Merino has certainly been one of them as the Toon Army start to gear up for another season in England’s top flight.

For me he’s had an excellent first season and who’s knows what more he is capable of. Would be mad to sell st that price

He literally just said how happy he was at #nufc a few days ago. Don't see why we'd want to cash in at that mediocre price and he seems happy. Can't see it?

Think they're mistaken him for Joselu with that price tag.

Do they mean £50million?

I don’t believe the Spanish media at all about this.
