‘Don’t need players like that’ – Newcastle fans react to striker’s recent admission

Newcastle United supporters have been pretty downbeat in the Transfer Tavern in recent times after seeing their side lose 2-0 at in-form Liverpool on Saturday, thus falling to 16th place in the Premier League table.

Rafa Benitez’s men went into their encounter with the Merseyside giants unbeaten in their preceding four league matches, which included an impressive 1-0 win over Manchester United at St James’ Park on February 11. Yet the Magpies were unable to produce another upset on Saturday though as goals from Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane secured a deserved victory for Jurgen Klopp’s Reds, thus instigating Newcastle’s fall to 16th in the Premier League table, albeit staying two points clear of the relegation zone.

As such, there have been several quiet Magpies fans in the Tavern in recent times, many of whom are hoping their side can get back to winning ways when they host fellow strugglers Southampton at St James’ Park this weekend.

In the meantime though, there has been much for our resident Newcastle supporters to get their teeth into, not least recent comments from striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, in which he disclosed that he is enjoying his football more on loan at Championship side Fulham than he did with the North East giants in the second tier last term.

The Serbia international made the deadline day move to Craven Cottage after seeing a proposed deal with Anderlecht fall through, and the 23-year-old has certainly proven his worth to the Cottagers with three goals in six appearances for Slavisa Jokanovic’s side.

And the striker has since admitted that the players ‘enjoy’ the football at Fulham more than at Newcastle last term, in comments which has stimulated quite a response from Magpies supporters on Twitter…
