Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern are quite confused with the update they’ve been given by manager Rafa Benitez on their on-loan striker, Islam Slimani. Slimani joined the club in the January window from Leicester City and is yet to play a minute of football for the Magpies, owing to injury.
Newcastle fans can’t wait to see their powerful Algerian striker take to the pitch in the Northeast as they look to ensure Premier League survival and retain their status as a top-flight club. However, it’s become a bit frustrating for the Geordies who have been propping our bar up, as the wait to see Slimani in action has been a long one, with the striker’s injury keeping out for over three months.
Slimani joined Leicester City from Portuguese club, Sporting, back in summer 2016 as the club’s record transfer signing after a very successful spell in Portugal. Although it hasn’t all been plain sailing for the target man since moving to England. In Leicester, Slimani struggled to usurp Jamie Vardy and Shinji Okazaki in Fox’s front line. Slimani will be hoping, along with the Toon Army, that he can fit some form in the Northeast and show fans why he moved to the Premier League.
