The Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to comments made by their manager, Rafa Benitez. A report on Sky Sports has claimed that the Spaniard wants change at Newcastle to stop him suffering and has said that the club’s hierarchy needs to give him the resources he wants to keep him happy at the club.
The Geordies propping our bar up have been able to breathe a little easier this week as they look more likely to stay up following the 3-0 thrashing of Southampton just over a week ago. The players are now enjoying a two-week break from first-team fixtures as the international break is upon us. However, the work isn’t yet done for Benitez and his team. The Magpies sit 13th in the table but are only four points away from the relegation zone, meaning the Northeast club still have some work to do.
Newcastle owner Mike Ashley was hoping to have sold the club by Christmas as Newcastle fans have ramped up the pressure and made it clear that they don’t want to see the Sports Direct owner anywhere near the club. Although an offer from Amanda Stavely has stalled over the last few months and is apparently dependant on the Toon Army’s league position at the end of the season. Our local Geordies will be hoping their club can avoid the drop this season and complete the transition from Ashley to Stavely and the fans hope for more assured times ahead.
