‘Flashbacks’, ‘Thanks for the £30m’ – Newcastle United fans react to Moussa Sissoko’s Real Madrid showing

Amongst the Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern, Moussa Sissoko is quite clearly not a popular figure. Having done little to prevent the club’s relegation to the Championship in 2016, he then sulked all summer, until getting a £30m move to Tottenham Hotspur last August.

Indeed, such a fee looked like a total waste of money by Spurs, though he has improved of late, as much as our punters clad in black and white hate to admit it. Still, one of the major problems they have with former Toulouse man is not the fact he left for pastures new, it’s his delusions of grandeur.

The midfielder announced his desire to play for Real Madrid after an awful campaign for the Magpies in 2015-16 and finally got his way in playing at the Santiago Bernabeu last night. Only for Spurs, against the Spanish giants, in the Champions League.

Now, the 28-year-old did not embarrass himself last night, though his performance was full of traits the Newcastle fans in our bar will know all too well. A lot of running, with very little end product.

With that in mind, here’s a look at how Newcastle fans reacted on Twitter to Moussa Sissoko’s Tottenham performance against Real Madrid last night.
