Newcastle United supporters have been making a lot of noise in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side edge closer to Premier League safety after beating Leicester City 2-1 at the King Power Stadium on Saturday.
Rafa Benitez’s men went into their encounter with the 2016 league champions having got past Southampton and Huddersfield Town in their previous two league games, results which moved them seven points clear of danger. And the Magpies now find themselves with a ten-point cushion to the bottom three as goals from Jonjo Shelvey and Ayoze Perez sealed victory at the King Power Stadium, and while the Foxes did give them something to think about late on through Jamie Vardy, it was ultimately in vain.
As such, there have been many buoyant Newcastle fans in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom are supremely confident that their team have done enough to avoid relegation this term in what has been their first season back in the top-flight following promotion from the Championship.
In the meantime though, there has been much for our resident Magpies supporters to get their teeth into, not least recent reports suggesting that Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford could seek to leave the club this summer.
And alongside reports detailing Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, and Tottenham interest in Kenedy, the Magpies may struggle to land the 22-year-old, and as such should forget about the Chelsea man and instead make an ambitious move for United’s Rashford.
Ultimately, the England international has struggled for regular football under Jose Mourinho this season, starting just 14 of United’s 32 Premier League games, and appearing as a substitute on 15 occasions.
And with just one league start in 2018, it’s clear that the 20-year-old is struggling to force his way into Mourinho’s first team plans, to the point that he is reportedly considering a move away to command the regular football his talent deserves.
And Newcastle should be at the front of the queue for Rashford’s signature.
The 20-year-old may not have started too many games this term, but his quality is undoubted as evidenced by two well-taken goals in the 2-1 win over Liverpool a few weeks ago, which means that he has now scored against the Reds, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester City already in his short career – clearly, he is a big-game player.
Ultimately, the Englishman has got massive amounts of ability just waiting to be fulfilled, and in a Newcastle side which has struggled for goals this season, he could be in his element – he may even get to play more centrally such have been the Magpies’ difficulties in the final third.
Obviously, it will be a tough ask for Newcastle to land Rashford this summer, what with the youngster likely to be in-demand if he does indeed want to leave United, but the North East giants would likely be able to guarantee him regular first team football in a side which appears to be on the up and hoping to be challenging in the top half next season.
And with a deal for Kenedy far from certain, the Magpies should forget about the 22-year-old and instead make an ambitious move for the linked-away 20-year-old United star.
