Forget Zaha: Newcastle’s £6.3m-rated hero can be most important player in the bottom half

The Newcastle United fans here in the Transfer Tavern have far from enjoyed their first campaign back in the Premier League amid yet turmoil behind the scenes in terms of a takeover, though the January window has at least provided them with some excitement.

Indeed, though the New Year sales didn’t exactly go to plan, our resident Geordies have been delighted with the arrival of Kenedy over the course of it. The Chelsea youngster has seriously impressed during his early performances on Tyneside and his £6.30m rating by the good people over at Transfermarkt looks a real steal.

Obviously, the 21-year-old is only on loan with the Toon Army, though his impact on Rafa Benitez’s side has been a major one. Interestingly enough, there’s an emerging school of thought amongst our punters about Kenedy’s standing in the relegation run in.

Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha is widely considered to be the best player outside of the top six and his influence on Roy Hodgson’s men is an obvious one. Clearly, Kenedy has a long way to go to prove he’s on the same level as Zaha, though the Palace man’s injury has given the Magpies star a chance.

With everyone in the bottom half of the table stuck together in a dogfight, Kenedy has a real chance to make a difference. A ridiculously talented winger boasting pace, power and poise, the South American samba star has all the attributes to play a huge role in the final part of the campaign.

Indeed, strong performances on his behalf can help change the complexion of the bottom half of the table, not just Newcastle’s standing in it. With games against Southampton, Huddersfield, Leicester City, West Brom and Watford, he can play a huge role if he continues to start for Benitez.
