The Newcastle United fans here in the Transfer Tavern simply cannot get enough of potential takeover talk.
Indeed, the Geordie contingent propping up the bar are searching all they can about Amanda Staveley, who was spotted at St. James’ Park over the course of the weekend during the Toon’s draw with Liverpool.
So, reports from the Chronicle suggesting more positive news on that front have gone down a storm today. They claim Staveley met with some of the Magpies’ top brass, including the likes of Lee Charnley and Justin Barnes in the boardroom after Sunday’s game.
There’s not thought to have been any direct contact between her and Mike Ashley, though Staveley is understood to have been impressed with the atmosphere during the Liverpool game and did talk to some of the powerbrokers in play on Tyneside.
No deal is thought to be close and there’s sure to be complications along the way, though even the mere idea of being taken over has our north East locals dancing on the pool tables.
It’s obvious that Newcastle fans would love a new owner. If Staveley can either do it, or be part of a deal that does (as she was with Manchester City), the Rafalution might finally take a proper shape in the Premier League.
