The Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to the news that Scottish international midfielder, Matt Ritchie has had to pull out of the Scotland squad owing to injury. The setback comes at a bad time for the Magpies as they host Huddersfield on Saturday in the hope of climbing three points further away from the drop zone. Newcastle United tweeted the news with a link to the Newcastle website for more details.
The Newcastle man had to pull out of the Scotland squad ahead of their game against Hungary tomorrow, meaning he won’t travel with the squad tomorrow. Ritchie has scored two goals and registered six assists in his 27 Premier League appearances for the club and the fans will definitely miss him if he is unable to make the squad for Saturday’s vital game against Huddersfield.
The last game Rafa Benitez’ side played in the Premier League was the 3-0 thrashing of Southampton at St James Park and the Geordies will be hoping they can use the momentum from that win to take another three points away against Huddersfield. Ritchie and co have done a great job in getting Newcastle up to 13th in the league table, although the job isn’t done yet for the Toon. The Magpies sit four points clear of the drop zone with eight games remaining as they hope to keep their Premier League status intact for another year.
