Good news for Rafa Benitez ahead of Arsenal’s trip to Newcastle tomorrow

Newcastle United fans here in the Tavern are hoping their side can secure another three points later on today, after going their last three Premier League games unbeaten.

Encouragingly, the Magpies are beginning to build up ahead of steam as Rafa Benitez has got them performing incredibly, but they face a stern test later on today as Arsenal will travel to St James’ Park. But, many of our local northerners were handed a welcome boost prior to kick-off, as according to BBC Sport’s pre-match team news, Islam Slimani is amongst a fully fit squad that is available for Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez.

The Algerian is still yet to score his first Newcastle United goal since joining on loan from Leicester City in the January transfer window after missing out with injury concerns. He did miss out in the Magpies’ last Premier League fixture against his parent club, but he is available to face the Gunners later today after making his comeback against Huddersfield a fortnight ago.

Indeed, there are no injury concerns for Benitez as he welcomes Arsene Wenger tomorrow, much to the delight of the punters propping up our bar.

However, he may find it difficult to break into the starting lineup after witnessing their dominance last time out against the Foxes, as fellow attacker Ayoze Perez managed to bag himself a goal.

Landlord’s Verdict:

Of course, having Islam Slimani available for selection is a big bonus after playing without him in their last fixture, as they now have an added threat to come off the substitutes’ bench. And, against an Arsenal defence that can be fragile at times, utilising Slimani’s pace and power could prove crucial.
