Finally, the Newcastle United fans propping up the bar in the Transfer Tavern have been able to raise a glass to a new signing, following the arrival of French defender Florian Lejune.
Our resident Geordies were growing slightly frustrated about their lack of activity in the market, though they are now hopeful the floodgates will open at St. James’ Park.
Indeed, according to the Daily Mirror, more exciting times are on the way.
They claim the club are set to hand new long-term deals to defensive duo Jamaal Lascelles and Paul Dummett, following their pivotal roles in the Toon’s promotion from the Championship. Lascelles, made captain by Rafa Benitez last season, has particularly impressed our local Mags, becoming the kind of skipper the fans can finally relate with.
Dummett may not have always wholly convinced the Geordie faithful, though became a stalwart of last season’s success and both players are understood to be close to signing new five-year deals on Tyneside.
While many of the punters propping up the bar hope Benitez continues to strengthen his defensive line, they’re largely delighted about the news that top brass are working hard to secure the futures of some of their most important players.
