Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern were absolutely thrilled on the final day of the season as their side battered Antonio Conte’s Chelsea 3-0 in front of an absolutely packed St. James’ Park on a sunny day in May.
Rafael Benitez has guided his side to the top ten, but the Magpies are well behind in the race for the European football. Significant investment is needed if they are to return to the top of the table, but no investor has approached Mike Ashley with an offer to buy the club. Now, Ashley must back Benitez if he is unable to sell the club.
One of the stars of their season has been Chelsea loanee – Kenedy. The Brazilian forward has played a massive part in Newcastle turning their form around, and the club are keen to make his temporary stay a permanent one according to reports. However, reports in Germany (as per Kicker) suggest Bayern Munich will also make an attempt for his signature which could mean the Tyneside club misses out.
Instead of signing Kenedy, the Magpies should instead turn their attention to West Brom winger – Nacer Chadli. The Baggies’ relegation to the Championship was confirmed last week meaning a number of their star players would be set to depart the club. Chadli is their record signing, arriving at the Hawthorns for £13m from Tottenham in 2016 and is believed to have a £16m relegation release clause in his contract.
The Belgian has had a torrid time with the Baggies this season after falling out with Tony Pulis earlier in the season. Following the appointment of Pardew, Chadli struggled for fitness, making just four appearances so far this season. Valued at £10.8m by Transfermarkt, the 28-year-old would be perfect for Newcastle.
The World Cup will be the perfect chance for Chadli to showcase his talents and Newcastle must be quick to snap him up before someone else does.
