The Newcastle fans are slightly disappointed to have seen their top eight finish scuppered after loss recently but, bearing in mind just a few weeks ago, they’d been flirting with relegation, so they really have done terrifically well to amend a potentially disastrous situation.
Rafa Benitez has been the pioneer behind the rise in form and without the Spaniard, well the Newcastle fans know they would have been in a lot more trouble without the experience of their quality manager. Their hard work is far from over though as the tough grind really begins next season, because the Benitez will again have to try and keep the Magpies in the league, with finances currently unknown.
Due to the money constraints, our punters believe that if Newcastle choose not or fail to keep Martin Dubravka permanently, they should target Sam Johnstone, a keeper currently on-loan at Aston Villa who is also valued at £2.25 million on Transfermarkt. The Englishman has enjoyed a very successful season out on-loan from Manchester United, proving to be one of the Championships best shot-stoppers, keeping a magnificent 20 clean sheets in 44 appearances thus far.
His work at Aston Villa is yet far from over with the play-offs looming ever closer. Johnstone, 25, could prove to be a bargain if Newcastle could pull off a deal. Mike Ashley continues to be tight with his money and Sam Johnstone is the perfect way to resolve the goalkeeping situation with little funds available right now. It seems that Newcastle need a few quality additions if they are yet again to remain in the Premier League but even with the current team available, Rafa Benitez has proven his worth and ability, now it’s time for Mike Ashley to properly back him in the transfer market.
