Our Newcastle fans here in the Transfer Tavern are enjoying this season greatly but they’ll only truly look back on it fondly should they go up at the end of the campaign.
There’s no reason why they shouldn’t, of course, with them currently top of the league and boasting the best manager and squad in the division.
Things are still tight at the top, though, and so it should be an engrossing watch over the coming months as those promotion places are sorted out.
Certainly, having Newcastle in the Championship has made the league even more intriguing than it already was and that certainly seems to have been reflected by Sky’s TV viewing figures for the second tier.
Indeed, as revealed by Chronicle Live, the broadcasters have seen an average viewing figure increase of 10% – largely thanks to the club’s sheer presence in the division.
They certainly travel in numbers, too, and so it can hardly be surprising to see that they are right up there in terms of popularity in the Championship.
They, of course, will be hoping to be back in the Premier League next year though.
