Insult that sparked latest Newcastle United crisis revealed in report

Just as life was going well for the Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern, reports from the Sun have proven wholly unwelcome.

Indeed, in an exclusive from the publication, they claim Jonjo Shelvey has been left with his hand in a cast after attempting to break up a brawl between fellow midfielder Mo Diame and club captain, Jamaal Lascelles.

The latter, who recently penned a new long-term deal with the Toon Army, is understood to have called Diame ‘lazy’ at the club’s training ground over the course of the international break. As a result, the Senegalese is believed to have insulted his skipper, leading to a fracas, that has reportedly left Shelvey in a cast.

As you can imagine, the Geordie contingent in our bar really aren’t happy about this. While training ground bust-ups are reasonably common, any problems behind the scenes on Tyneside will inevitably be magnified, such is the nature of Newcastle United football club.

Landlord’s Verdict:

Lascelles has previously spoken about the intensity on the training pitch, though it’s important it doesn’t go to an extreme. If the Magpies are going to enjoy a solid season, they need to keep their sense of togetherness.
