Newcastle United fans here in the Tavern are hoping that a resolution can be found in the sale of the club, as there seems to be little progress being made in recent times.
The Toon Army have never been shy to display their hatred towards current owner Mike Ashley, as the 53-year-old has become quite the villain during his time on Tyneside. And, their feelings have only gotten stronger towards the Sports Direct mogul with the latest developments in the sale of the club, as the Englishman continues to halt the progress of a possible takeover. However, according to reports in the Telegraph, after potential buyer Amanda Staveley ambushed Mike Ashley in an ‘unplanned’ meeting back in December, there has been no progress in the sale of the club in months as doubts arise as to whether Ashley will consider a fourth bid after Staveley time-wasting claims.
Newcastle United have been searching for a potential buyer since Mike Ashley placed the club up for sale in October, and it’s safe to say that developments since then have made for unsettling times at St James’ Park. Indeed, Amanda Staveley has established her interest in buying the club ever since it was put up for sale, but since then conversations have gone back and forth without a conclusion being reached. However, after Staveley’s final offer of £250 million was rejected by Mike Ashley, the potential buyer ended up running into the Newcastle owner while he was out at a restaurant in London, something that Ashley didn’t take kindly to. And, ever since this occurrence there’s been no progress made in the sale of the club, as the ‘unplanned’ meeting may have taken its toll on the chances of them coming to an agreement.
Subsequently, sources close to the discussions insisted that Mike Ashley has not altered his views on Staveley wasting his time throughout, and there are doubts as to whether he’d even consider a fourth bid. However, with Staveley still remaining interested and no rival bidders being found suitable as of yet for Ashley, there’s the possibility of a revival in the future.
Bad news for Newcastle United fans as a resolve in the future ownership of the club is rather important in terms of their progression, and with the possibility of relegation looming they’d love to have things sorted as soon as possible. Although, with Amanda Staveley and Mike Ashley continuously going back and forth, whether there’s any more business to be seen between the two is yet to be seen.
