Newcastle United travel to Wolverhampton tonight and will be looking to get back to winning ways.
Having won two of the last three in the Premier League with the only defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley, Rafael Benitez and Newcastle will be looking to further push themselves away from the relegation zone with a win against Wolves.
If they are able to do so and results go in their favour, this could increase the gap between the Magpies and the bottom three to five points, which will be vital given Burnley and Southampton’s good form of late. Club record signing Miguel Almiron can wait, there are more important things afoot.
If that is to happen, these two men must start to give them the best chance of winning…
If Newcastle are to nullify the threat that Raul Jimenez poses, having scored three times and assisted once in his last three League games, they will need Lascelles at the heart of the defence.
Wolves’ attacking approach means Newcastle are likely to continue with the 5-4-1 formation with their captain fantastic stationed in the middle of the back five.
If anyone is to halt Jimenez’s link-up play, movement and ability to arrive in the box at the right time, it would be Lascelles.
This may seem fairly obvious but if Newcastle are to have much joy going forward it is sure to be through this man.
As there are questions as to whether star signing Miguel Almiron will start who would link the midfield and attack, Newcastle will need to use Rondon to try and bully Conor Coady in the air and utilise his hold-up play skills to bring other players into the game.
If he can do so and find the attacking runs of Christian Atsu, Ayoze Perez and possibly Almiron if he plays a part, this will be key to getting a result at the Molineux.
