Newcastle United

It’s time for Benitez to play Newcastle United’s biggest wildcard this Sunday – Agreed?

Newcastle fans in the Tavern are becoming increasingly concerned over the chopping and changing of strikers week in week out.

Newcastle will be proud of the start they’ve made to the season, sitting 9th at the turn of the second international break. Many of those thanks to the tactical masterclass that Rafa Benitez has shown everyone to as he looks to continue the club’s fine form as of late, proving he’s still got what it takes.

As the saying goes goals win you games, many of us would associate this with the strikers. However, only 2 of the 7 goals scored this season has come from a forward, meaning that they just haven’t found their range so far, which means there is still plenty to ponder as far as match day selection goes.

The Toon Army’s new signing, Joselu, has quickly proved to be the favoured man as he fills the ‘typical’ Benitez nature as a tall player with the ability to hold up the ball, very similar to a certain Peter Crouch in his Liverpool glory days.

Scoring the 2 of the 7 goals, the Spaniard has proven himself at the point of the attack as he left Benitez with a great impression after scoring the only goal in a 1-1 draw at home to Premier League title chasers Liverpool.

However, his competition Aleksandar Mitrovic has only made 1 Premier League appearance so far this season as he seems to be living on the fringes of the team. Due to the lack of game time and trust from his manager he hasn’t been able to hit the ground running as he struggles to find a route in.

But with the recent injuries to attacking players Atsu and Ritchie, could the Serbian man find his way into the team?

With the fixture away at Southampton edging ever closer, we wait to see which man Benitez will turn to as he searches for an all-important result away from home.

The Saints have troubles of their own and the Serbian forward, who recently helped his country to the World Cup, could be the man to capitalise on them.

Newcastle fans, which man would you like to see lead the line against Southampton?
