The Magpies in the Tavern today have been particularly annoyed by a tweet posted by ex-Newcastle midfielder, Jermaine Jenas. Whilst on punditry duty for BT Sport, Jenas rubbed a number of our resident Geordies up the wrong way when he claimed that, after coming back from international duty, his training level was much higher than others at Newcastle.
Indeed, after a number of angry members of the Toon responded to Jenas via Twitter, the pundit has taken a swipe back at the fans with a sarcastic tweet.
Storm Emma has finally done one. Just checking if this Twitter storm has passed too pic.twitter.com/LNE6pxc1Z1

The Newcastle fans have made it clear on their stance on Jenas as a player, with many saying he was sub-par to the players around him at Newcastle at the time. It’s hard to argue with the fans however, as players like Alan Shearer, Nobby Solano and Gary Speed shared the dressing room with Jenas and many can’t imagine the levels dropping at St James Park when the Premier League’s record goalscorer is in your midst.
Jenas’ stay at Newcastle lasted for three and a half years before Tottenham prised him away from the North East club and it seems that many of the Geordie faithful are now glad that the 35-year-old didn’t stay longer.
With that in mind, here’s the Newcastle fans verdict on Jenas’ recent tweet:
If you genuinely believe that you were at a higher standard than most of the players at #NUFC when you returned to training, fine. I watched all your games home and away. I disagree with your assertion
