Newcastle are starting to steer away from the Premier League relegation zone following a spell of good form.
Things looked bleak at the start of the campaign with Rafael Benitez given limited funds to strengthen his squad during the summer. A poor run of form put the Magpies in serious danger of relegation to the Championship. Fortunately for the St. James’ Park faithful, Benitez has managed to improve their fortunes in recent weeks resulting in their slow ascent up the table.
The January transfer window is now less than two weeks away from giving Benitez the chance to add to his ranks. Takeover talks have dominated the headlines on Tyneside in recent weeks with Mike Ashley believed to be close to selling the club. A new owner could give the former Liverpool manager some valuable funds to play with.
One man who should be on his shortlist is Eibar midfielder – Joan Jordan. Valued at just £7.2m by Transfermarkt, the 24-year-old is a graduate of the Espanyol youth academy but failed to make the grade in the first-team. After various loan spells, Jordan was finally sold to Eibar in the summer of 2017 where he hit the ground running and has since developed into a critical player for the La Liga side.
Jordan made 35 appearances last season, scoring six and assisting four for his team-mates. The Spaniard’s excellent form has continued into the new campaign, finding the back of the net twice as well as creating three for his team-mates. Jordan is the ideal box-to-box midfielder for Benitez’s system – he has averaged 1.7 tackles per game as well as averaging 2.3 key passes in La Liga this season (WhoScored).
Still improving and developing with every game, there is no better time to bring him to the Premier League.
