With the Newcastle United fans here in the Transfer Tavern rather down in the dumps about life right now, things are rather sour right now. Two losses on the bounce have dampened expectations amongst our Geordie contingent, after so much excitement.
As talk of a Toon takeover goes slightly subdued, the punters here clad in black and white sure could use some cheering up right now. Well, comments from injury data analyst Ben Dinnery on Twitter aren’t likely to do that.
Dummett [hamstring] is back in training and Benitez says "he’s been getting better." Meanwhile, #NUFC should know next week how long Merino will be out – it will be at least a fortnight suggests the United boss. #NUFC

Indeed, when delivering news on injuries in play on Tyneside, he revealed that the club will find out next week the exact extent of Mikel Merino’s injury. The Spaniard – who has proved to be a hugely popular figure since arriving this summer – missed the losses to Burnley and Bournemouth with a back problem and reports suggest he could be out for a while.
However, the club should find out next week, meaning it’ll be an anxious wait for Newcastle and their supporters.
Merino’s absence is a notable one. Without him, the team lacks any sort of dynamism in the middle third and, with some big games coming up, it’s important he’s back as soon as possible. Would be a huge blow to miss him for much longer.
