Life at Newcastle proving so positive that key promotion man wants to stay

Still celebrating their dramatic Championship title win, the Newcastle United fans dancing on the pool tables in the Transfer Tavern are louder than ever.

The Magpies pipped Brighton and Hove Albion to the league crown and a love-in for manager Rafa Benitez has since ensued amongst the Toon Army.

Indeed, it seems life on Tyneside is currently so good that positively no one wants to leave it just yet. Speaking to the Northern Echo, Toon ace Vurnon Anita has announced his desire to stay on at the club.

”I am open to everything”, said the former Ajax man.

”I will see what happens. If this group stays together it’s a beautiful thing, but in football you never know what happens.”

”Hopefully we can stay together and then work for next season.”

The Dutchman is out of contract in a matter of weeks, though proved an important member of the squad under Benitez, despite failing to convince during the reigns of Alan Pardew and Steve McClaren.

Able to operate at right-back or in central midfield, the 28-year-old is a popular figure in the Tavern and many of the black and white faithful here hope he’s offered a new deal.
