‘Like Keegan going to the Mackems’, ‘Small club’ – Newcastle United fans don’t rate Everton’s chances

Newcastle fans here in the Tavern have had a delightful few days in Tyneside, after rumours of an excessive transfer budget and potential new owners have them in fine voice.

Newcastle have been blessed with repeated great news over the course of the season, as reports of the club being up for sale has sparked many ambitious thoughts from the Toon Army. One particular claim that has been brought about from this that gained the attention of all of Tyneside, is the £500m budget Amanda Staveley has reportedly claimed she’d provide for Benitez over the next 2 seasons.

As you can imagine with the sum and potential signings floating around in the fans heads, you can’t blame them for getting carried away. The vibe around the pub is a smug look of confidence as the Toon believe that with Benitez in charge and the amount of potential money to spend, they can go far as a club.

However, Everton have other ideas. After sacking Dutch manager Ronald Koeman due to their poor start placing them inside the relegation zone, they begin to create a shortlist of managers they’d like to replace their former man. One man sitting proudly on that list is Rafa Benitez after The Chronicle Live reported that Everton are becoming extremely interested in the Toon gaffer and his pedigree.

As arguably one of the best managers in the Premier League, his tactical brilliance is something that many teams are thirsty for as memories of Istanbul stay close in most peoples minds. After the start he’s made with this Newcastle side there’s no wonder he’s getting all the attention. If Newcastle United are to give it a real go at the ambitious plans set by potential owners, then the Spanish mastermind has to remain at the helm.

We had a look at what Newcastle fans made of the claims on social media…
