Manager reportedly needs convincing over Newcastle situation, club remain hopeful it seems

It’s been a relatively frustrating summer for the Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern so far, with only Christian Atsu – previously on loan anyway – signed ahead of next season.

Still, with Rafa Benitez at the helm, the Toon Army are never short on optimism and reports from the Chronicle have provided our resident Magpies with some rather good news indeed.

They claim the club have opened talks with Liverpool over the potential loan signing of Sheyi Ojo, following his heroics during England’s U20 World Cup win. Indeed, the 20-year-old winger is understood to have been the subject of interest in the North East since January, though the Reds reportedly wanted him as part of their FA Cup squad.

However, talks are said to have been re-opened of late, with the Magpies’ interest thought to have stepped up within the last week.

It’s believed that Jurgen Klopp may still need some convincing that a move to St. James’ Park is right for the player’s development, though Newcastle are reportedly hopeful they can give him the experience he needs.

Having watched the former MK Dons trainee strut his stuff in South Korea during the U20 World Cup, his potential arrival on Tyneside (albeit on loan) is enough to get those clad in black and white excited.
