Manchester United: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is hopeful Angel Gomes will renew his contract - Newcastle United

According to The Metro, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is still hopeful Manchester United wonderkid Angel Gomes will sign a new contract extension.

Gomes has featured in just 10 matches for the Red Devils’ first team in all competitions so far. The 19-year-old has scored 4 goals and created 1 assist in 5 games for United’s development squad this season (Transfermarkt).

United feel the club’s current offer of £25k a week is generous given his young age but Gomes’ representatives are unimpressed by the wages (Metro).

The England U-20 international has won 6 caps and scored 2 goals, and captained the U-19’s to World Cup glory in 2018. He also holds dual nationality with Portugal (Transfermarkt).

United face strong competition from Premier League rivals Chelsea, with Frank Lampard particularly keen on signing the youngster, and Gomes has taken notice of the Blues boss’ willingness to throw players like Billy Gilmour and Reece James into the mix.

Regardless, speaking last week, Solskjaer commented: “we hope we can convince him in the near future and long term future that he’s a Manchester United player.”

As expected several supporters are loving the boss’ latest comments, with one fan labelling the talented academy product as a “magician.”
