Newcastle United supporters in the Transfer Tavern are very much looking forward to their side’s trip to Cardiff City in the Premier League on Saturday, as both teams seek to get their first win of the season.
Rafa Benitez’s men produced a spirited display but ultimately went down 2-1 at home to Tottenham on Saturday to begin the campaign with a defeat, while Neil Warnock’s Bluebirds did the same later in the day by losing 2-0 at Bournemouth. Thus, both sides will have likely targeted Saturday’s clash as a great opportunity to pick up their first three points of the season, which is sure to make the meeting between the two an interesting one at the Cardiff City Stadium.
As such, there are many confident Newcastle fans up and down the country at present, several of whom are wondering what changes Benitez could make to his starting eleven for the clash, especially given that DeAndre Yedlin is set to miss out through injury.
The United States international started the defeat to Spurs last weekend but was forced off late on in proceedings due to a knee problem, and while the club confirmed earlier this week that it was not a serious injury, he will miss the trip to South Wales on Saturday.
And several Newcastle fans on Twitter have been debating who could replace the 25-year-old in Benitez’s side, with some of the opinion that 22-year-old Jamie Sterry should be given the nod…
Instead of playing someone out of position, I’d like to see Jamie Sterry given a chance on Saturday, with Yedlin out.
Rafa must think something of him since he was involved in pre season and hasn’t been loaned out. #NUFC

Rondon definitely. I’d be tempted to go with Sterry instead of Manquillo give the kid a chance. Perez to stay in over Muto for now though. Maybe Ki for Diame.

Agree – Sterry could do a job there and needs the game time.

Has to pick Jamie Sterry. Playing against a newly promoted team where he won’t be stretched that badly. Perfect opportunity for Sterry to develop into a first team player

I’d give Sterry a go

Hopefully Jamie Sterry, a better player than Yedlin anyway. Yedlin getting back to his level?…he must be really poor if he’s not back to hopeless headless chicken level yet

Well he can’t be any worse than Manquillo
