Though the Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern remain as delighted as ever that Rafa Benitez is in charge of the club, few would have imagined just how slow the summer would have proven to be so far.
With only Christian Atsu signed thus far – despite a myriad of links all around Europe – our resident Geordies are keen on seeing their squad strengthened for life back in the Premier League as soon as possible.
So, reports from the Liverpool Echo have done very little to cheer up the members of the Toon Army propping up our bar. They claim Liverpool has REJECTED any advances made for young winger Sheyi Ojo, who had recently been touted as a loan target for the Magpies.
Indeed, Newcastle have reportedly been joined by Burnley and Middlesborough in registering an interest in the England U20 international, especially following his heroics in that age group’s recent World Cup win.
Still, Jurgen Klopp is understood to be keen on keeping the former MK Dons trainee for most of the summer, to assess where he will feature in the squad. While a loan switch later in the summer is reportedly a possibility, there will be no rush in deciding his short-term future.
As you can imagine, this is another blow to our local Newcastle fans.
