Having watched their side win the Championship title in the most dramatic of fashions yesterday, the Newcastle United fans propping up the bar in the Transfer Tavern have been dancing in delirious delight.
Rafa Benitez’s men left it late, though lifted the trophy following Brighton’s draw with Aston Villa and the Spaniard is now more popular than ever amongst the Toon Army.
So, reports from the Daily Telegraph over the course of the weekend will have delighted Magpies all around the world. They claim the former Liverpool and Chelsea coach is becoming increasingly confident he will get what he wants this summer.
Despite his popularity, Benitez’s long-term future was cast into doubt back in January as the club failed to bring anyone in over the New Year sales. Still, it’s thought a £70m transfer budget could be agreed as Benitez plots to take Newcastle back up to the top eight of the Premier League.
He will reportedly meet with Mike Ashley next week, though the signs from this report appear to be positive ones, much to the delight of our locals.
