Little over a year ago, the Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern were drowning their sorrows as bitter rivals Sunderland retained their top-flight status at the Toon’s expense.
Still, as disappointing as dropping down into the Sky Bet Championship clearly was, the difference between the two clubs right now is a big one, with the Magpies looking as if they will soon return to the Premier League.
Sunderland, meanwhile, are marooned at the bottom of the English elite and manager David Moyes has been asked to explain comments made to a female reporter, only adding to the mess currently plaguing the Black Cats.
While, of course, his comments are no laughing matter, it’s fair to say Newcastle fans on Twitter are enjoying the situation Sunderland currently find themselves in. With the two looking likely to switch league positions this season, it’s a far cry from events back in 2016, with former manager Sam Allardyce dancing on the pitch.
That being said, here’s how Newcastle fans reacted to Moyes’ comments.
Can't believe Radio Newcastle made David Moyes say those things.

Mackems using the Moyes situation to aim shots at #NUFC… of all the clubs to attempt the moral high ground…

Hope Sunderland don't sack moyes, he's doing a cracking job holding the rest of the table up
Moyes telling someone he's going to slap them is getting more media attention than pardew did for actually head butting someone #nufc
