Newcastle United fans here in the Tavern are hoping to improve on their 1-0 victory over Manchester United last time out, with Premier League survival still far from assured.
The Magpies are hoping to pick up where they left off in the Premier League, after making huge strides towards survival in their last outing against United. Although, there’s still a handful of games to be played with some crunch matches possibly shaping their fate, so it’s important that Rafa Benitez can rally his troops to ensure they don’t fall at the final hurdle.
Indeed, it appears that one of the Magpies’ outcasts will be returning to the club in the summer, as according to reports in the Chronicle Live, Achraf Lazaar is set for a Newcastle United return after being frozen out by loan club Benevento.
The full-back has been completely frozen out of the Benevento squad and faces the prospect of living the second half of the season on the sidelines. Of course, with the Serie A club making room to accommodate former Manchester City defender Bacary Sagna, there’s no surprise that the Moroccan has now become surplus to requirements over in Italy.
And, Italian sources suggest that Benevento boss Roberto De Zerbi does not rate Lazaar, with him now being left out of the 25-man list of players to take part in the second half of the season.
The Moroccan now seems to have become heavily out of favour over in Italy, so is being forced to stagnate behind the scenes for the remainder of the season. Indeed, the 26-year-old returning to St James’ Park in the summer for pre-season could be an interesting one, with the full-back position being one that the Magpies have had to dip into the loan market for.
