With promotion to the Premier League just a win away, the Newcastle United fans propping up the bar in the Transfer Tavern are in high spirits ahead of tonight’s clash with Preston North End.
Though the Championship campaign has been a long and arduous one for the Toon Army, a return to the English elite can be sealed and plans for life back amongst the big boys look to already be in place.
According to the Daily Mail, the Magpies are keen on signing Southampton forward Jay Rodriguez this summer, should they go up. The England international has struggled to recapture his best form since a dreadful injury back in 2014, though is also believed to have attracted interest from the likes of West Brom.
The 27-year-old is believed to have grown frustrated at his lack of first-team starts this season and is reportedly eager to kickstart his stalling career. Though the Baggies are said to be eager to reignite their January interest in the former Burnley man, Newcastle are likely to spend money this summer to get their squad ready for Premier League competition.
Though his struggles of late are rather well-documented, the Geordie drinkers in the bar seem to believe Rodriguez would be a decent signing.
