Newcastle considering 9-goal strike ace as Prem plans drawn up

With a 10-point cushion above the play-offs and a superior goal difference to any side in the Championship, Newcastle fans are gearing up for a Premier League return here in the Transfer Tavern.

There may have been a mid-week wobble that saw Brighton move above them to the summit of the division, but with only five games to play, promotion looks assured and the Chronicle are reporting that transfer business is being talked about at the club in relation to this.

The Magpies are eager to avoid the woes of their last top-tier appearance and are keen to recruit players that will compliment Rafa Benitez’s system, with Andre Gray of Burnley being targeted.

The 25-year-old shone for the Clarets as they gained promotion in the 2015/16 season, netting 25 goals, and has since added eight in the Premier League to his name, as well as another in the FA Cup.

Gray has not been without his off-field issues this term, but he boasts an impressive record in terms of putting the ball in the back of the net, while his contractual situation at Turf Moor – his deal expires in 2018 – makes him attractive to Newcastle.

Burnley look on course to avoid relegation, so it remains to be seen if the Tyneside club can lure him away from Lancashire.

Newcastle will finish in midtable in the Premeir League next season – agree?
