Newcastle United will want to strengthen their side in the summer so they can compete in the Premier League next season, and fans in the Transfer Tavern will be encouraging the club to spend to ensure they can survive once again.
Rafa Benitez managed to work wonders with the squad he had, with many deeming them to be early favourites to go back down to the Championship – however, a turnaround in form and some inspired loan signings in January managed to get the Magpies into the top-half of the table.
The Spaniard will be keen to have financial resources available in order to bring in a number of additions to help them become more competitive – however, he may well have to sell some players to help fund new acquisitions.
Gayle was on the Cottagers’ radar last year and they reportedly failed to sign him with a £15million offer, whilst Mitrovic joined them on loan in January and has impressed, netting 12 goals in just 16 Championship appearances for Slavisa Jokanovic’s side.
Landlord’s Verdict: The Newcastle fans in the Tavern will likely be disappointed to see the two forwards leave in the summer.
However, the locals will feel if they can get a good price for the duo then they will be able to sign a player of higher quality who would make an impact to the team instantly, and potentially take them up the Premier League table next season.
