Some Newcastle United fans are ecstatic as former manager Rafa Benitez is reportedly keen to return to the northeast under a new Saudi Arabian-backed ownership, once the prospective takeover at St. James’ Park is completed, according to The Daily Telegraph (via NUFC 360‘s Twitter page).
As per the report, Manchester City’s John Stones and Chelsea’s Ross Barkley are among the players that the 60-year-old would like to take with him to the Magpies.
Stones has averaged two clearances, 1.2 tackles, 0.7 interceptions and 0.1 blocks per Premier League game so far this season, while Barkley has made three assists and averaged 2.2 shots, 1.5 key passes and 1.4 dribbles per match in the top flight, according to Whoscored.
However, it is the potential return of Benitez that has excited some members of the Toon faithful. Indeed, the Spanish coach previously had 146 games in charge of Newcastle, with his team winning 62 of those, drawing 30 and losing 54 (via Transfermarkt).
Should Rafa take charge at Newcastle after the proposed takeover?
