Newcastle fans on Twitter can't speak highly enough of Martin Dubravka - Newcastle United

Since he first came to England back in January this year on-loan from Sparta Prague, Martin Dubravka has been a revelation in the Northeast. The 29-year-old came in as an unheard of shot-stopper when the Magpies weren’t calling out for a new ‘keeper, however, the Slovakian has usurped both Karl Darlow and Rob Elliot will ease as he’s become a hero at St James Park.

Despite the fact that Newcastle United are currently 17th having won for the first time on Saturday, Dubravka has the 4th most clean sheets of every Premier League goalkeeper, more than Hugo Lloris and David De Gea, and is only behind Ederson, Alisson and Kepa Arrizabalaga. The next step for Newcastle will be for Rafa Benitez to try and build on Dubravka’s stability at the back and be more clinical going forward.

Three of the Slovakian’s shutouts have come during 0-0 draws, however, if The Geordies were able to turn those three draws into wins then they’d be sitting pretty on 12 points and 13th in the table. Instead, an inability to find the net has let down the defensive stars at the club and they find themselves in a relegation battle. Dubravka and co face Burnley and West Ham in their next two matches either side of the international break and if they can keep up their defensive dominance and improve going forward then they should survive comfortably this season.

The Geordies have loved seeing Dubravka in the Premier League and will hope he can only carry on improving.
