Newcastle fans react to Fabian Schar’s international exploits

Newcastle United supporters have been pretty downbeat in recent times after seeing their team fail to win any of their four Premier League matches prior to the current two-week break for internationals.

Rafa Benitez’s men went into their most recent encounter against champions Manchester City having picked up just one point from their first three games, drawing 0-0 at Cardiff City alongside defeats at the hands of Tottenham and Chelsea. And the Magpies remain without a league victory to their name despite a spirited effort at the Etihad Stadium, with goals from Raheem Sterling and Kyle Walker either side of a DeAndre Yedlin equaliser sealing all three points for the Citizens.

As such, there have been many despondent Newcastle fans up and down the country in recent times, although the international break has allowed them to keep a close eye on some of their stars in action for their countries.

And one man whose efforts have prompted quite a reaction from Magpies supporters on Twitter is centre back Fabian Schar, who made the move to St James’ Park during the summer as Benitez sought to improve his defensive ranks.

And with a handful of appearances already for the North East giants, it looks as though the 26-year-old will play a key part in whatever success Newcastle have this term, although his efforts for Switzerland in their 1-0 friendly loss to England on Tuesday have prompted quite a mixed reaction from Magpies supporters.

Some were reasonably impressed with the defender against Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions, while others were unconvinced by the centre back’s defensive qualities – thus, it’s clear that these fans really aren’t sure what to make of the 26-year-old…
