Newcastle fans react to Jamie Carragher’s latest column

Newcastle United supporters have been pretty despondent in recent times after seeing their side suffer a fourth Premier League defeat of the season last time out.
Rafa Benitez’s men went into their meeting with Arsenal at St James’ Park having picked up just one point from their opening four matches, drawing 0-0 at Cardiff City alongside losses at the hands of Tottenham, Chelsea, and Manchester City. And the Magpies were on the receiving end of a 2-1 scoreline again last weekend as goals from Granit Xhaka and Mesut Ozil set the Gunners on their way to all three points, as although Ciaran Clark got one back for the hosts late on, it wasn’t enough to inspire a Newcastle comeback.
As such, there have been many disappointed Magpies supporters up and down the country in recent times, several of whom are likely to be interested in Jamie Carragher’s recent column in The Daily Telegraph, in which he states that manager Benitez needs to leave the club.
Rafa Benitez is wasted at Newcastle, he has to leave this failing institution. https://t.co/YqWBKp7Q9E

The Spaniard took over at St James’ Park back in 2016 but didn’t have enough time to keep the club in the Premier League, although he stayed with them to help them achieve an immediate return to the top-flight the season after.
And in leading them to a tenth place finish last term, Benitez once again underlined his credentials as a top manager, only for owner Mike Ashley to again fail to adequately back the former Liverpool boss in the recent summer window.
And with his contract up in the summer, it is looking increasingly likely that the 58-year-old will indeed leave Newcastle come the end of the season, which is a decision ex-defender Carragher believes he must take.
And while Newcastle fans will surely not want to see Benitez leave, many of them took to Twitter to reluctantly agree with the former Liverpool defender…
As a Newcastle fan, I couldn’t agree more. He’s being treated like dirt by a disgraceful owner. Mike Ashley only wants another yes man like Pardew or Mclaren. Guess we’ll be going the same way as Sunderland soon unfortunately.

As much as it pains me Jamie, you’re absolutely right, and when he leaves he’ll go with my blessing and thanks, along with a bucket load of what ifs

Bang on, Carra. Ashley isn’t bothered about the clubs future, we’re just an advertising platform to him, he’s more bothered about his retail portfolio.

Jamie 1000000% m8 well said. God knows what will happen next season

He’s right here.. as much as it breaks all are hearts. Why is he at #NUFC? A manager if his calibre operating with next to no budget constantly being made to find Miracles just to survive.. It shows romance is still in football just by him staying loyal to the fans

Sad but true

Sad but true. Not sure how we got Rafa in the 1st place (bar £6m a season wages). We have had a chance to build something solid under Rafa but wasted it. 12 years of mediocrity under MA shows no signs of stopping tho I fear things could get worse quick after Rafa goes

Depressing but sadly true
