Newcastle: Fans tear into Sean Longstaff after goalless draw against Oxford

Plenty of Newcastle fans were left fuming over the performance of midfielder Sean Longstaff in this afternoon’s FA Cup clash at St James’ Park, with one lamenting him as “slow & immobile“.
Steve Bruce’s side were held to a goalless draw at home to Oxford and will now have to visit the League One club for the replay next month, with the 22-year-old’s frustrating season continuing as his wait for a first goal of 2019/20 goes on.
Longstaff had been valued at £50m by the club last summer in the face of transfer interest from Manchester United [as per Daily Mail] but has managed just a solitary assist from 19 appearances this season and never truly threatened against Oxford, with a first half cross that led to a chance for Allan Saint-Maximin and a deflected shot late in the match his only contributions of note (as per Chronicle Live).
The 22-year-old, whose brother Matt came on as a substitute in the game, was given a lowly five by Chronicle Live reporter Lee Ryder in his player ratings, with the journalist writing: “Not a great day for the Academy product. Needs to get back to doing the simple things.”
These Newcastle fans on Twitter were also unimpressed with Sean Longstaff this afternoon, with one supporter accusing him of being as short on pace as Magpies team-mate Jonjo Shelvey:
Sean Longstaff may have ability and he’s young with potential to grow but he needs taking out of the current first team picture. Every time he plays he infuriates me. Time for some tough love because his current offerings are just not good enough #nufc

Get the good longstaff on

Don’t think #nufc can afford to wait on Sean Longstaff regaining form. He looks so slow & immobile. Better off with Matty in MF. But really need some energy out on the field.

Someone please tell me that this is a different Sean Longstaff to the one that played for #nufc last season, would struggle to get into a championship side to be honest IMHO.
