Newcastle United’s squad is barely brimming with a huge amount of attacking quality, so the case of Yasin Ben El-Mhanni is a curious one. Indeed, the youngster was allowed to leave the club over the course of the summer after issues behind the scenes with Peter Beardsley, cutting short a Toon career that may have been successful.
Right now, the Magpies are crying out for a fresh sense of creativity and while the former Non-League star was by no means established, reported interest in him from the likes of Standard Liege and Royal Antwerp proves the ex-Youtube sensation is by no means all style, no substance.
With the relative dearth of options in mind, we recently asked our Newcastle-supporting readers whether or not they believed the 22-year-old should have been allowed to leave St. James’ Park.
Interestingly, as you’ll see from the results in our poll above, El-Mhanni actually had the support of 42% of voters, though a slim 58% majority don’t think there was much reason to keep him.
Either way, we’ll never know what he could have done in black and white.
