It’s no secret anymore that Newcastle United will want to have a busy transfer window in the summer.

There is surely going to be a big clearance sale, where many current stars could make way for fresh blood after such little investment since being promoted to the Premier League. However, during this hectic phase, the Magpies seemingly aren’t willing to give some of their experience stars their due.

This has led to troubles inside. According to reports (via The Mirror), Matt Ritchie is the latest Newcastle figure considering his future and is willing to leave Tyneside next season. The left-winger isn’t getting the new contract he deems fit, making him look for another club in order to get one last big contract.

While he's certainly a popular figure amongst the support, Ritchie, who is valued at £10.8 million (by Transfermarkt), hasn’t done much to earn a quintessential place in the lineup. He’s been poor defensively, often being outsmarted and outmanoeuvred by opponents, causing problems for Rafa Benitez’s side.

Yes, every Toon fan reading this will remember some of the big goals he's scored for them, but it's time to move on. Ritchie has been a great player to have served the purpose of getting to the Premier League and then the further consolidation, but it's time to move away from the functional and search for the fantastic.

As long as the Magpies get their desired £10million fee for him, they’ll be wise to replace him with someone with a touch more imagination.

Unless something drastic happens, it seems inevitable the end of the road approaches for Ritchie at Newcastle. Every Magpie will thank you for the memories Matt, but it's time everyone moved on.
