Our Newcastle fans here in the Transfer Tavern want to see plenty of signings in the summer with them looking to stay in the Premier League for a prolonged amount of time.
The men from St. James’ Park will be eager to keep themselves in the top flight for good after getting promoted from the Championship last season but now the hard work must start in the transfer window.
For sure, the Magpies need to bring in new players but it appears any move for Ruben Semedo is being held back by the defender’s current club Sporting Lisbon.
Indeed, according to Portuguese outlet A Bola, Sporting want a 50% sell on fee, and are also demanding €30 million in compensation if Newcastle decide to sell him to another Portuguese side in the future.
It’s thought that the Magpies were hoping for a £12.5 million fee to conclude the deal but the Portuguese outlet reckons that they have been knocked-back by these new demands.
The transfer, then, could be in jeopardy unless something can be thrashed out but, fortunately, there is at least plenty of time at the moment to sort things out.
