Newcastle fans will be concerned after Mike Ashley’s latest financial results were revealed last week.
As a result of Newcastle’s revenue falling, Sports Direct also lost value (as per the BBC) according to 2017’s financial records. Ashley is still desperate to sell the club but no new owners have been forthcoming in recent months. Their lack of spending in recent transfer windows is concerning despite breaking their transfer record to sign Miguel Almiron in January.
Fans will be hoping the ownership situation can be relieved as soon as possible with Rafael Benitez facing an uncertain future at St. James Park. The Spaniard stated earlier in the season that it would be a ‘miracle’ if the Magpies were to beat the drop this season. Even if they do stay up, the former Liverpool boss could seek the depart unless he is backed financially in the transfer market.
If he is given funds during the summer transfer window, the ex-Real Madrid boss should make a move for Benfica maestro – Pizzi. Valued at £18m by Transfermarkt, the 29-year-old has been a mainstay in the team since joining the club from 2013. Pizzi is currently enjoying one of the finest seasons in his career to date and has been ever-present for the record champions during his 37 appearances.
The attacking midfielder has been lethal in front of goal, finding the back of the net ten times in all competitions. As well as his goalscoring exploits, Pizzi has also been the creative hub for his team, creating an impressive 16 goals for his team-mates. The former Atletico Madrid man would add some much-needed spark in the Magpies engine room and help their forwards find their best form on Tyneside.
Now heading into the prime of his career, there is no better time to lure him to the Premier League.
