Newcastle will hope to make some last-minute improvements to their team with the hope of doing enough to beat the drop this season.
Rafa Benitez has got his team playing well at the moment but with no fresh faces, other teams may suddenly reap the benefits of having more motivated players.
With serious lack of spending on the team, the Spanish coach has little to work with and that could turn into a big problem with plenty of games still to play.
Nevertheless, Newcastle have still been surrounded with plenty of options this month and they could still conjure up a couple of late deals.
Having missed out on Jordan Lukaku, why not return to try and sign reported (as per the Daily Mail) target Antonio Barreca?
The left-back, (who is valued at £6.3 million on Transfermarkt) hasn’t quite made the impact he would have wanted to since his move to Monaco in the summer, hence why Newcastle may be able to tempt him away.
In nine appearances for the club so far, Barreca has provided two assists but for a 23-year-old trying to make inroads into a better footballing future, he just isn’t getting the match-time he needs to improve.
Predominately this season, Antonio Barreca has been used as a left-back and although that’s probably where Newcastle would utilise him as well, he can play further up the field as a left-midfielder if needed.
The Magpies’ squad will accept any kind of reinforcements right now as with injuries and fixtures sure to pop up quick and fast, their squad would not be ready to deal with those problems.
A hungry, 23-year-old player that would instantly improve their team would obviously be advisable and that’s what they could get with the loan acquisition of Antonio Barreca.
